The CollegeDawg Story

The inspiration for CollegeDawg.com began in early 2025. While talking to various schools for our son, (3 of the “8 types” of Schools we cover here); we quickly realized how few Higher Ed Schools/Representatives were thoroughly aware of some of the strategies we planned to employ to get our son through a Bachelor’s in roughly 2 years (at the lowest cost possible). Anyway, some schools involved had very little interest in researching our questions or finding the right person to help us out at the school (kinda like the DMV-no offense). A few Colleges were somewhat-to-fairly helpful, IF you got to someone who could make a firm decision (or decipher school polices). And lastly, some were very good with listening to our strategies & concerns, while also moving pretty quick to get answers & approvals from the “Head Cheese’s”. (You’ll hear about them later).

So, with all this in mind, how were we able to make CollegeDawg a reality?
Well, a few years back, Brian had to retire early as a Higher Ed Exec. due to some medical issues. He was able to continue Mentoring a handful of Managers, Sales Professionals, and a couple Recent Grads, but that just didn't do it. He tried some other informal home-based undertakings---but they kept coming back as a "hard no" on long-term interest.
All the while he kept thinking there was "something else" he could do to help others with Career Assistance & Progression--- simply overlooking all the experience related to Career "Entry Points" he could share with others. These included: Prepping Students for College, Coaching on earning Degrees FAST, Guiding in Degree Selection, Training on School "Types" available, Educating people on Non-College Certifications, and Providing Advice on Career & Educational Options in the Military.
All of which he had a Formal Background in.

THUS - CollegeDawg became a real thing (sorta).

There Were Just a Few Challenges to Overcome Though:
1. First, Brian could only commit to a limited number of hours a week--with a lot of flexibility. Simply put, that requirement really "jacked up" our timeline! (More on this to come)
2. Second, we had to determine how best to utilize his Higher Ed Experience, Overall Background & "Insider" Status, in a meaningful way. But at the same time keep it interesting, logical, flowing, and somewhat entertaining!
3. Lastly, how would we get this info out to the most people---but in a "Set-It-and-Forget-It" manner? Ideally, we would be able to develop something user friendly---yet fairly in-depth-- that we could just update periodically as important info & policy changes came out.

Anyway, when the lightning bolt finally struck, and we figured out it would have to be an extensive, yet easily understandable
"How to" type site (like "College & Careers for Dummies"), we got to work writing and researching. Thus, CollegeDawg.com was officially formed. The Key NOW was to figure out this tech stuff & form a simple plan to get the word out. So obviously Melissa became a key person on that. She even agreed to manage a few social media sites (that weren't included in the original plan).
So now we had it---something simple that we could knock out in 4-5 weeks---yeah right. Try over 9 months! Why? Because every topic, strategy, or regulation seemed to open up like 5-10 other items that we felt needed to be included for stuff to make sense---AND MAKE IT ACTIONABLE on Day 1 for anyone reading. So, we went down all those "Rabbit Holes" so hopefully you wouldn't have to (or at least not as many).

Anyway, finally in Feb 2026 we were able to get this thing online---allowing us to help High School Students & Parents, Adult Students, Military Prospects, Veterans & anyone else needing some "inside information" on College & Careers. So here we are, CollegeDawg.com is up & running! We hope you like the:

“IT’S BASICALLY ALL HERE FOR FREE” setup of our site.
*However, if you need further one-on-one help, we can do that too. It just costs a little more than FREE.
